Cristina Pedroche rings the bells with a dress from the ‘Manuel Piña’ Museum in Manzanares

One more year, Cristina Pedroche becomes the undisputed protagonist of the most special night of the year, during the broadcast of the Chimes 2022 on Antena 3. Her best kept secret was this time a museum piece; belonging to the collection that Manuel PiñaUpon his death, he bequeathed it to Manzanares (Ciudad Real), his hometown that currently treasures it in a museum that bears his name.

Josie’s styling is a tribute to the La Mancha designer and is a dialogue between Piña’s dress, a winged cape created by BUJ Studio and Manuel Albarrán’s accessories.

The dress belongs to the Spring/Summer 1991 collection, the last collection presented by Manuel Piña at the Pasarela Cibeles (for whom he is the founding designer), which is inspired by insects and reptiles and that Manuel Piña made as a review of his professional career. The piece is a transparent design, made of iridescent openwork taffeta , with metallic finishes and two hoops that provide geometric volume like a beetle shell.

The styling is completed with the work of BUJ Studio and Manuel Albarran , two living designers who dialogue with the work of the deceased designer. Buj Studio has been in charge of making the winged cape, a piece that has more than 580 hours of work between design and construction, and Manuel Albarran, in charge of making the styling accessories (helmet, nails and shoes). The result is a dialogue about metamorphosis and the mysterious transformation process carried out by many insects and other living beings that seek a new rebirth by changing their skin.

This rebirth is what Josie hopes for Manuel Piña on such a special night: “I have always been indebted to Manuel Piña, because since I was a child with a vocation to dedicate myself to fashion I was able to enjoy him as a close reference of success in that world that since La Mancha looked so far away… I owed him a tribute a long time ago and I am very happy to have been able to do it with Cristina Pedroche in a prime-time event. If there is a child among her with the same vocation as me and has seen this style from a place very far from this industry, tell her to check Piña’s figure; because he will discover a self-taught genius who reached the top with high doses of passion and effort… he will realize that it is possible to get where you want if you dream hard and work hard…”

Furthermore, Josie explains the choice of this unique piece in this way so that it could dialogue with others created especially for Cristina Pedroche by living figures at the avant-garde of Spanish fashion design: “Since I started taking charge of the outfits for the Campanadas, I wanted to present dresses made in Spain, exclusively for Cristina Pedroche and to talk about the fashion of that year. In 2021 I have been able to see the spirit of Manuel Piña in the desires of other contemporary creators and I understood that it was time to bring a piece from his museum to a museum. event that means so much to me”

For Cristina Pedroche it has meant a qualitative leap after seven years working alongside Josie and this is how she summarizes her feelings: “It is not the first time that I have carried a work of art in the chimes, but it is the first time that I have carried a museum piece. I am excited about Manuel Piña’s dress and the incredible works of BUJ Studio and Manuel Albarrán , that is why I wanted them to be exhibited throughout 2022 at the Manuel Piña Museum in Manzanares, so that visitors can feel emotions similar to mine today. .. This style is an invitation not only to this textile museum, but to all those museums far from the cultural circuit of the large capitals, because they treasure pieces as interesting as the one I have been lucky enough to wear tonight…”
